The Supper Table at Sipapuni

🌄 The Supper Table at Sipapuni

  1. In the age before speech was wise, when the people still walked in the dim caverns beneath the earth, there stood the Supper Table of the Most High beside the opening of Sipapuni, the place of emergence.

  1. The Hopi ceremonial cycle: a spiritual symbiosis with nature
  2. Hopi Tribe Culture and Traditions Explored
  3. Hopi Kiva ladder
  4. Those who carried quiet hearts sat near the opening, where the breath of the new world touched their faces.
  5. They knew that silence is a shield, and that what is silent cannot be wrong. They waited for the dawn, speaking only when the Spirit rose like smoke from the kiva.
  6. But the Brothers — the ones who had forgotten the teachings — came stumbling to the table. Their tongues were restless, their hearts swollen with gluttony, and blasphemy spilled from their mouths like ash falling from a broken firebrand.
  7. The Most High placed food before them, but the plates were
  8. hot with the heat of creation, the same heat that once softened the walls of the underworld and opened the path upward into the Fourth World.
  9. the same heat that once softened the walls of the underworld and opened the path upward into the Fourth World.
  10. The righteous tasted nourishment. The Brothers tasted flame. For what is given as blessing becomes fire when taken without reverence.
  11. Every bite scorched their tongues. Every word they tried to swallow blistered their lips. They could not partake in the food of emergence, for their hearts had not yet risen from the darkness.
  12. They cried, “Serve the dish cold; it is better that way.” But the wise said: “I would rather eat my turkey cold than speak without wisdom. I would rather learn than steal from the listening ones. I would rather be silent than take from the table of truth.”
  13. So the Most High gave them plates of fire, heat so fierce that the world must turn three times before the day cools again.
  14. Only then will the Brothers return to Sipapuni, and only then will the mark of gluttony fade from their foreheads. For emergence is not given — it is earned. And the supper table of God is not a feast of the mouth, but a feast of the spirit.
